i use to have a hard time at school. i was main stream and i was constantly picked on. Until one day i entered a contest at the school and all of a sudden i had people who never bothered with me before come up to me and wanted to be my friend. even some people who have teased me before were all of a sudden being nice to me. I even heard i was talk of the theachers lounge. it made me feel very good but my mottow was if you did not want anything to do with me then the forget you now. there was anothher time whern my mom heard somone say oh my god look at this gorl who has a problem with her eyes she is going to suck. my mom stayed quiet and just lietened to them talk. after i was downe with my peformance i recieved a standing O and those same eople who were talking aobut me were aprt of it and then said how they were suprise dand thought i was quite well. have any of you have had any similar situations like these?
Wow, that's pretty awesome that it opened a bunch of doors for you. Well, I never cared much for popularity, but I can definitely think of a few similar instances. I joined the wrestling team in high school, and at first, my teammates didn't know how to work with me, and they didn't really want to practice with me or anything. luckily, I found a good group of people within the team who practiced with me, and showed me the sport. Later in the season, we had a match with another school, and I managed to pin my oponent fairly quick. After that, my teammates began to notice me, and were a lot more willing to work with me, and accept me as part of them.
I also taught myself to play guitar in high school, and joined the guitar class there. The music director heard me and had me do some solo performances for school shows. I met a bunch of people that way who showed me different styles of playing guitar, and introduced me to a bunch of new music.

fact of the matter is, that because there is something about us that sets us apart from others in a way that is sometimes confrunting and chalenging to people, we might have to work harder sometimes to be notices or accepted. Of course you don't want people to notice you and want to know you just for your singing, but if it is a foot in the door, why kick the door shut?
